Little Little Pache Pache Tops Tops Champlain Champlain Field; Field; Rancocas Rancocas Tests Tests 10 10 at at Garden Garden State State Melody Mine Vies i With Dandy Blitzen Bishop Miss Looms Choice; Oil Rich, Burst o Song and Scintillation Also Fancied By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden. N. J.. May 14.— A field of 10 juvenile fillies has been named to compete here Wednesday in the five-furlong Rancocas Stakes, a dash that will have a gross purse of 9,100 and a value of 3,850 to the winner, providing they all accept the challenge which, appears likely at this time. Probable favorite is William Hal Bishops Melody Mine, a daughter of The Doge and Magic Melody who will carry 116 pounds and be ridden by Harold Keene. Melody Mine, whom Bishop purchased from Col. Phd T. Chinn for ,500 as a yearling, is the only runner whom the "horse-trading" Bishop has ever declared as "not for sale." Co-highweight with Melody Mine is B. A. Darios home-bred Dandy Blitzen, who will be ridden by apprentice Harold Grant. Keenest opposition is expected from a trio of invaders from New York who finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in last Wednesdays running of the Rosedale Stakes. They are Elmendorfs Oil Rich, P. H. B. Frelinghuysens Burst OSong and Hill-n-Dalt Farms Scintillation. Each of these fillies will cany 113 pounds. Winner of Trial Week Ago Dandy Blitzen, a daughter of Bull Dandy and Spiteful Sue, managed to defeat Melody Mine by a neck in the Rancocas Trial but the majority will expect here a week ago, a reverse of that decision tomorrow. Melodv Mine displayed excellent speed from an outside post position in that five-furlong dash and was holding a clear lead over Dandy Blitzen when she attempted to bolt on the stretch turn. Keene had to abruptly check Melody Mine, affording Dandy Blitzen the chance to rush forward with a saving of ground and wrest command in the final yards. Bishop, to correct a possible recurrence, has added blinkers and a tongue strap to Melody Mines equipment for the Rancocas. In this equipment she worked from the gate last Monday and buzzed a half mile in •47%. handling perfectly. On "cold figures" the Bishop filly tomorrow gains an edge of seven pounds over Dandy Blitzen fr6m their former encounter. The trio from the Rosedale Stakes each drops six pounds" from that race, which was run by the winning Poly-Hi in :594,5. Oil Rich was four and one-half lengths behind the winner, finishing a head in front of Burst OSong, and an additional four lengths in front of Scintillation. In defeating Meldoy Mine in the Rancocas Prep Dandy Blitzen ran in :59%. Dandy Blitzen won her maiden race this spring at Laurel by an easy five lengths. Her next start she reportedly broe poorly, and finished third, and then won her sec- Continued on Page Forty-Pour Rancocas Tests Field Of 10 at Garden State . The latter finished a third and a second in a pair of dashes last winter at the New Orleans Fair Grounds. She then raced two times at Bowie and was an impressive winner of each. Oil Rich is a homebred from Max-Glucks Elmendorf. and is a daughter of Phalanx and Oil Princess. She will be ridden by Angel Valenzuela. She made a good bid in the stretch run of the Rosedale before losing ground to the winning Poly-Hi at the end. Previously she wasa winner at Jamaica in 1:0023. and was unplaced in her initial start. Burst OSong raced twice at Gulfstream Park prior to the Rosedale, winning her first and finishing second the next outing. She is by Spy Song and Impulsive, and will be handled by Ken Scawthorn. Scintillation, by Coaltown — Larkflower, won her debut at Jamaica and next time was second to the filly, Unleashed. Her jockey will be Sam Boulmetis. Ella K. Brysons Searching Wind. Short Brook Farms Craftiness and Harold H. Polks Mayan Princess finished third, fourth and sixth, respectively, in the Rancocas Trial. Craftiness, a recent winner in New York, appears to have the best chance for improvement off of the effort, she having had to come out sharply from the rail for racing room, and then finishing well. Final blow-outs for the Rancocas turned in this morning were as follows: Dandy Blitzen. three furlongs in :36, handily; Scintillation. :37, breezing; and Florann. :38. breezing.
