; Fonner Park Brings Meet To Close This Afternoon Eight Slated to Parade Postward In Au Revoir Handicap Headliner By DEAN WILLIAMS FONNER PARK, Grand Island, Neb., May 14. — The Au Revoir Handicap at one mile and 70 yards will head a nine-race program which will bring to a close 21 days of highly successful racing at Fonner Park. The ,500 feature drew eight of the top routers on the grounds including T-Town Express, Soma, New Shift, Childers, Reno John, Isaprince, Red Randy and Senator Guy. New, Shift, a good three-year-old from the stable of Wesley Bolen, drew top weight of 116 pounds in the handicap. The son of Sceneshifter was third to Mephistopheles at five and one-half furlongs in his first out at Fonner Park. In- his next and most recent start, New Shift easily defeated The Snapper over the six and one-half furlong course in 1:20%. The Bolen sophomore will race as on entry with Senator Guy. V. C. Watsons Childers, in at 114 pounds, has won three races during the 1957 season, two at Oaklawn Park and one over the local course. He gained his victory at Fonner Park over a field of allowance horses at six and one-half furlongs. Both of his winning efforts at Hot Springs were over a distance of ground such as he will be asked to cover Wednesday. Reno John, owned by Nebraskan Ben Fogelson, has yet to gain his first victory this year, but has turned in some top efforts only to be beaten by the narrowest of margins. The son of John One lost a nose decision to Cedar Valley Stables Eternal Moon and Phil Brossards Eternal Town. Both defeats came after Reno John had led right down to the closing stride. He can again be expected to set the pace in the Au Revoir Handicap and may have the stamina under the handling of jockey Joe Sherman to go all the way. The post time for the final day of racing at Former Park will be 2:30 p. m. CST.
