Louisville, Ky., May 14. — The Old Guard Purse, a six furlongs condition race for four-year-olds and upward, and the Dark Star Purse at a like distance for three-year-olds and older, will share the spotlight Wednesday at this course. Nine shifty sprinters are named for the Old Guard while an equal number of entrants, representing seven interests, are engaged for the Dark Star. I. J. Collins Some Tan. who recently returned to active campaigning after a long lay-up may be the post-time choice for the Old Guard Purse. The Collins gelding, a four-year-old son of Some Chance and Tannette, displayed good speed last week while finishing second to Big Power in an overnight sprint. Others expected to go well in the Old Guard Purse are Mr. and Mrs. Jake Low-ensteins Smackover, Rebel Stables Super Devil, and Lou Zimmermans Mr. Crooner, each slated to take up 124 pounds. M. J. Schmitts Wm. L. Freyhof, 120, J. Graham Browns speedy but erratic Romeos Heart, Sun Coast Stables Nival, H. L. Freyns Floridian, and Mrs. John M. Branhams Tournure also will see action in the mid-, week attraction. Johnny Ralph Adams, leading rider at the Downs spring meeting, is engaged for Smackover and Jack Skelly will guide Super Devil, who has been showing improvement in his morning trials. Johnny Rotz will guide Nival, apprentice Otto Crank is named on Romeos Heart and youthful Jimmy Preston will be at the reins on Floridian. Henry Forrest, Covington, Ky., turfman, will send out an entry in the Dark Star Purse; H. M. Mundys Ressa Bob and J. H. H o m a n s hard-hitting sprinter, Don Melody. The Florida Shores Stable and R. E. Morris are to be represented in the co-[ feature by Charier and Sugar Dad. Ob-. noxious. Country Music. Trading, Indac and Trico complete the probable starting band.
