„ , . V ::; ;:;;:■■ . ON THE BROADWAY SCENE ByBurtBoyor NEWYORK,N.Y.,May 14.— HOWCUM??? If Frank Sinatras ,300,000 libel suit against Look Magazine is really sincere, „ , then then how howcum cum his his very very . V then then how howcum cum his his very very shrewd and wise advisors didnt wait a few more weeks until the series has finished running in the magazine? Certainly they must realize that their lawsuit and its attendant publicity can only help Look sell a few million extra copies of the last two installments. installments. The The pub- installments. installments. The The pub- public must ask the obvious question, "What are they saying about him?" and then plunk down 15 cents to find out. HOWCUM, Look was willing to depict Sinatra as a louse by mentioning how he insulted Dorothy Kilgallen at his recent Copacabana opening and then they themselves compound the insult by reprinting it so that now millions know it instead of just the few hundred spectators at the Copa that night? AAA HOWCUM Nat "King" Cole, Harry Bela-fonte, Lena Home and other Negro performers of their stature do not follow the lead of Sammy Davis Jr. by refusing to perform in Miami Beach hotels — places where their own people cannot come to see them and where they themselves must suffer outrageous indignities? Professionally, they do not gain prestige or money from Mami Beach bookings. All of them ■ ■ — — — — — — — — — — — — — — - — — ~ — — ■" — have more offers than they can accept at prices equal to or surpassing Miami Beach club rates. Milton Berle certainly would not perform where Jews are not welcome. AAA HOWCUM 40* of the 60* top songs on American juke boxes are rock n rollers as a result of their plugging on radio and TV? And howcum the radio and TV sponsors, the real power behind the mikes and cameras, seem content to permeate the ozone with this garbage? AAA HOWCUM General David Sarnoff keeps making speeches emphasizing the importance of "live" TV while at the same time his own NBC is shoving more and more film into their time slots? AAA HOWCUM the Sid Caesar show which year after year is conceded by critics, TV authorities and the Emmy Awards as one of the best shows is being treated like an orphan around NBC? And, in view of General Sarnoff s strong feelings about "live" TV howcum the NBC sales department has not offered Caesar for sale to a prospective sponsor since last September? AAA HOWCUM all TV networks are not putting their money where their mouths are? They steadfastly tell you that New York is the TV center of the country and should remain so, while at the same time they are spending every last cent of their "facilities" money building studios on the West Coast. AAA HOWCUM the city license commission ers make such a big fuss about scalping I of theater, tickets, etc., while the biggest t scalping of all goes on right under their r noses in the taxi industry where a medallion the license to operate a cab is sold from owner to owner for as much as Twelve Thousand Dollars? Is, it within our statutes to sell a privilege which the ; city originally issued at next to no-cost? ? Or, cant you get enough publicity investigating - cab drivers? AAA HOWCUM Herman Levin, the producer i of My Fair Lady, is at odds with the shows . authors, Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick i Loewe? So far, Levin has refused to gratify their fondest wish, which is to change their billing to read "Herman Levin presents Lerner and Loewes My Fair Lady" rather than as it appears now with Levins 3 name above the title and theirs below. . They are so frustrated by it #iat, through i another party, they have prevailed upon l newspaper men to suggest in print that t Levin pay tribute to their talent by making - the desired change in billing. AAA According to Lerner and Loewes intimates . this will be their last association x with Levin because they feel he is a cad I to have forgotten their generosity in handing . him the producers title and percentage inasmuch as they not only wrote it, but I they arranged the entire financing of the " show generally a major part of the producers job and then brought him in to j handle the details.
