] Fort Miami to Introduce Its New Half-Mile Track Last Three Events on Todays Program Run Over Shorter Strip By T. J. MULLIGAN FORT MIAMI, Maumee, Ohio, May 14. — Ralph Parachek, president of the Toledo ; Turf Club, Inc., which operates this race course, has announced officially that the new half-mile oval which has just been completed will be put into use with the running of Wednesdays nine-race program. Racing director Robert Leavitt has always been of the opinion that the followers of the sport prefer to see the thoroughbreds racing "close to them," and as he puts it, "a half-mile track will make the horses seem to be running right in the customers laps and they love it." The new half-mile track is well banked and affords a perfect "naked eye view" every foot of the Way. The same stretch, now in use on the mile track, will be used for the half-mile oval with the horses finishing directly in front of the stands at the same finish line used on the mile oval. Portable rails have replaced the section of rail leading into and from the half-mile oval and they will be placed at will, either to close off the half-mile track and to run on the mile oval or visa versa. In every race on the new half-mile strip the horses will pass the stands at least twice, depending upon the distance of the race scheduled. In a one mile race the horses will start at the finish line and will travel around the course twice, giving the spectators a view of the field in front of them three times. The last three races on Wednesdays nine -race card will be over the new half mile course with the eighth race serving as the feature. This event is a five and one-half furlongs sprint for four-year-olds and older and nine in all have been named to match strides. Among the contestants are C. L. Kiples Cecil M., Mrs. K. Ryans Grand Level, Bob Holloways Tip Off, P. J. MacMillans Donna R., M. Collins Melbas First, E. Sharrards Madam Cross, W. Basarabas Sun Bike, W. J. Tufts Son of Poona and M. Dupuys Cu Cujo. Son of Poona is highly regarded and may be the right one while Cu Cujo has shown flashes and may be difficult to beat. Grand Level may go well in this test as he is near-ing peak form and could prove very dangerous.
