CONNIE STELLA, held under restraint to the final quarter mile where she was sent up between horses and, in a long drive, wore down WHISK TRU in the closing strides. The latter raced with the top flight from the start, .was on the outside much of the way, gained a narrow advantage under pressure entering the final furlong and just failed to last. HELAMAN found his best stride too late while closing along the inner rail. DJERID had speed from the start and appeared to hang slightly after making a bold bid a furlong out. SOLE HEIRESS broke tardily and closed a big gap. NO LADY had her speed, commenced bearing out on leaving the backstretch, clipped the heels of SWEET BUDDY, nearly falling and causing her rider to lose his left iron, then continued to go out and was pulled up when Woodhouse was straightened away.
