VOCABULARY, never far back, slipped through next to the inside rail entering the stretch and, responding to pressure, was up in the concluding stride to finish on even terms with STANDEE. The latter obtained a slight lead at the furlong marker, then held on tenaciously to finish on even terms with VOCABULARY. DAWTY drifted out slightly on the final turn, recovered readily, but rallied too late to reach the top ones. MARA MOO, much used setting the early pace, had little feft, GLORIOUS EMMA passed tiring horses. MONTE CASSINO began sluggishly. BANGAWAY was outrun. MISS BARON quit. DELUGE came to the inside of HIGH BRACKET to assume a clear lead entering the stretch, then continued on gamely under a mild hand ride. VIGOROUS, always within striking distance, was guided. to the middle of the track for the drive, but failed to sufficiently respond when punished. HIGH BRACKET, fractious at the post, held sway for five furlongs, then faltered. HARPES lacked the necessary rally, as did BOOTLET. KHUMBABA was through early. Overweight Bootlet, 2 pounds. MARCH EAST, unhurried when outrun early, moved up boldly on the outside to gain a contending position on the far turn, came fast when placed to .pressure and outgamed BATTLE WAVE in the last strides. BATTLE WAVE responded readily to reach the lead after completing the final hurdle, but was unable to withstand the winner when the real test came. OUT POINT- raced MARSHLAND jl. into defeat during the early running to take command after the fifth jump, then held on determinedly in a sharp effort. The latter worked his way forward to the stretch and closed determinedly in a sharp effort. MICHIKEE, slow to gain best stride, rallied too late to seriously endanger the leaders.. ROMAN SPRING, in close quarters on the turn, finished courageously when clear. HAIL FELLOW held a clear lead when settled for the drive, but faltered when punished. STRAND quit. ARTISMO, away in the first flight, moved up boldly on the outside to gain a slight lead on the final turn, retained the advantage to the furlong marker under clever handling and, in a long drive, lasted to outgame WAR PIPER. The latter, sent to the inside of the winner for the stretch run, reached near even terms with the latter when shaken for the final test, was unable to gain command, but held on tenaciously, easily besting the others. TURN-TO, never far back, was within striking distance of the leaders entering the stretch, but faltered when subjected to brisk urging. BOBBY BROCATO was unable to improve his position during the late stages. WISE POP and PERMIAN lacked early speed. WAR DOINGS raced wide. SIR BOSS retired steadily after flashing brief speed. SHAMROCK moved up menacingly on the outside entering the stretch, but tired when placed to pressure. SCENT quit. UPSTROKE failed to stay. MATAGORDA had no apparent mishap.
