MARS FILLY GRADUATES! Well Rewarded Qualifies Impressively for Princess Pat Stakes. Tornadic Disqualified in Fourth at 0 Washington Park Triple for Jockey A. Robertson. "HOMEWOOD, J.U., June 8. Well Rewarded showed that she will be an able running mate for Manie OHara, as the entry of Mrs. Ethel V. Mars, in Saturdays running of the Princess Pat Stakes, for two-year-old ; fillies, by the manner in which she accounted for the Homewood Purse, five fur- longs, top line event on todays card at Washington Park. The daughter of Sickle, which shows improvement with each start, ran the five-eighths over a slow track in 1:01, to win by five lengths from a field which included several other candidates for Saturdays feature. -The Milky Way Farm miss, ridden by Alfred Robertson, who was completing a saddle double, was scoring- the first victory of her career, although this was only her third start. HERMANA SECOND. . Second to complete the five furlongs was the Valdina Farms Hermana, which was coupled in an entry with Osculet, while J. Newmans Little Flag was third, and C. Trentanellis Jane Vito was next. After being .engaged for early pacemaking honors by Hermana, Well Rewarded sprinted into command after Robertson had straightened her out for the run through the stretch and she steadily drew away. Entering the final furlong, her margin over Hermana, which had been driving hard from the stretch turn, was three lengths and the Milky Way filly added two more lengths to her margin before she reached the finish. " Back of the leaders Little Flag, Jane Vito and Shandon Queen, the latter filly making her. first public appearance, staged quite a tussle for minor honors, which eventually fell to the former by a head over Jane " Vito. In the final fifty yards Shandon Queen, which occupied third place for more than a half mile, fell back to trail Jane Vito by three lengths. Osculet, which never appeared a threat, was another three lengths further back and she led Cindy and Book Reader. WORKS EXTRA FURLONG. Following the race, the Valdina Farms fillies galloped out an extra furlong to complete their training for Saturdays stake. Deprived of his "whip at a most crucial stage of the race, Robertson still was able to hand ride his way to. his third saddle success of the afternoon when Mrs. D. L. Hortons Hi-Well captured, the fifth race, Continued on thirty-eighth page. i MARS FILLYGRADUATES Continued from first page. which, at a mile and a half, was the longest of the meeting. Robertson, whipping left handed, got the whip caught in his equipment and, in trying to. extricate it, lost the lash about a sixteenth out. ! Rain this morning and again around noon accounted for the change in track condi- j tions and it also brought about many withdrawals which materially lessened the quality of the program. The weather by race time, however, was pleasant enough, although skies were partly overcast and a, large crowd was in attendance. TRANSFUN AWARDED PURSE. The Blue Ridge Farms Transfun received the decision in the fourth race, when Tor-nadic, which finished first, was disqualified, for foul, the first such disqualfication of the meeting. Tornadic, which ruled a slight favorite over the winner, bore over on the Blue Ridge filly in the final furlong and finally, right near the end, forced T. P. Martin, who rode Transfun, to take back, permitting Tornadic to lead his rival past the finish by a length and a half. Under the revised placings, Terpsichore received second money, Margaret G. third and Zorana fourth. They were the only other starters. Two Chicago-owned horses figured prominently in the first two races of the afternoon. The opener went to Morris Vehons Ariel Attack, the odds-on favorite, which won from Pedant, with Chatter Wrack third. In the second race Mrs. Albert Sabaths Radio Hour defeated eleven other platers from the lower bracket. Whata Question finished second, beaten only a head, while Playaway was j third and the favorite, Technocracy, next, j Bobby Dotter, who rode Whata Question, I claimed a foul, asserting that the winner had carried him out in the stretch, but it was disallowed. The stable of Mrs. Denemark narrowly missed completing a double and Illinois-owned horses missed scoring their seventh straight victory when B. P. Woodsons Leading Article captured the Eddy Duchin claiming purse, decided over seven furlongs and offered as the seventh event. Mrs. Denemarks Grand Duke finished second, beaten a little less than a length, as Bel Espoir finished third, and the favorite, Wise Duke, fourth.
