DON MANUEL went into contention in the opening sixteenth, disposed of MISS TROPHY for the lead after leaving the back stretch and increased his lead steadily, winning as if much the best. JIRASOL II. began improving his position after leaving the back stretch and closed willingly in the stretch run. FLAMING TORCH was well placed from the beginning but was unable to make up any ground on the two leaders. PAQUES closed a big gap. YANKEE SKIPPER saved ground at the stretch turn and finished well on the inner rail. SPURLIN was unruly at the post and never a factor. PRIMER was away fast but was unable to keep up. FOOLEM moved up fast after rounding the far turn, wore down PROSECUTOR for the lead and, holding on gamely, outlasted the latter to the end. PROSECUTOR was forwardly placed all the way and fought it out in courageous fashion after being overtaken. CUSTER was unable to keep pace early, saved ground at the stretch turn and finished with good energy. ALL ROWES was far back early, swung to the outside in the stretch and, closing with a rush, would probably have been third in another stride. WITLESS was unable to keep pace after enjoying a forward position early. UNFURL had good speed, early but faltered in the last three-eighths. LOVE POTION was outrun. DRAFT SERGEANT appeared to have broken down and MAPLE QUEEN ran up on his heels, falling while being eased up. Scratched 42051 Lady Carrot, 107; 42437 Shantime, 107; 42143 Dixie Flapper, 102. TONIANNA worked her way up gradually and, moving up fast approaching the stretch, wore down STEEL WORKER inside the last sixteenth and was going away, at the end. STEEL WORKER was well placed all the way, drew clear when reaching the stretch and, despite holding on willingly, was unable to cope with the closing charge of the winner. KHAY trailed until leaving the back stretch and closed with a belated rush through the stretch. MYRON closed some ground in the last quarter mile. COMPANY was much used in racing with AMHURST, and faltered in the final drive. JINX, on the outside down the back stretch, was taken in back of horses entering the stretch and was going swiftly in the last sixteenth after gaining clear sailing. CORKER was outrun early and closed some ground in tt last quarter mile. ANY CHANCE displayed good speed in pacemaking, but faltered after going three-qmrters. TRAGEDIAN moved up in the nm down the back stretch, although unable to improve his IHMition thereafter. COUNT ME was away poorly and never able to reach contention. OUR BUD tired. COUNT TETRARCH followed along within striking distance of the leaders, went to the front before reaching the stretch, .withstood determined opposition from THUMBS DOWN, and had enough left to stave off the closing bid of LONE HAND. The latter moved up stoutly in the last five-sixteenths and closed with good energy. HUNTERDON was farther back than usual "in the early stages, closed a big gap and wat going gamely at the end. THUMBS DOWN found clear sailing on the inside leaving the back stretch, made a game effort to go along with the leader but was not good enough, faltering in the last sixteenth. BABY SWEEP faltered after forcing the early pace. ALBUQUERQUE displayed all his speed and became tired rounding the far turn. RED NOSE went well for the first three-quarters. RECKLESS improved her position steadily after straightening out for the run through the back stretch, wore down TWO EDGED to gain a slight lead and, hard ridden, held sway to the end. TWO EDGED raced to the front nearing the half-mile ground, opened up a good lead and, despite holding on willingly, was unable to keep pace in the closing drive. PACKAGE was unable to improve his position during the first three-quarters, then finished gamely in the stretch. HAPPY FLAG was moving up stoutly on the inside when she raced into close quarters and had to be taken up sharply. She was unable to recover. GREY SHOT, away slowly, had much taken out of her entering contention and was unable to make up any ground in the final drive. PALATINE tired when the real racing began.
