HANDICAP STARS AT DETROIT IN GOOD STAKE WORKOUTS DETROIT, Mich.t June 8. Several of the leading handicap stars were" seen in brilliant trials at the Fair Grounds this morning. Whopper, winner of the Colonel Alger Memorial Handicap, ran one mile in 1:44, handily. He was accompanied by Handy Boy and the son of Pharamond II. was inclined to loaf after running the quarter in :24, half mile in :49 and the three-quarters in 1:15. Zsars trial was one-of the best of the spring season. He ran eight furlongs in 1:43, handily, covering the final quarter in :25. He was timed the quarter in :26, half mile in :52 and the three-quarters in 1:18. Professor Paul worked seven-eighths in 1:30. He ran the quarter in :25, half mile in :50 and the three-quarters in 1:16.
