GENTLE KNIGHT raced on the outside of his company, moved up fast on the turn into the stretch, wore down VANISHED and DIXIE PRINCESS and was going, away at the end. SOCK DOLOGER, slow to reach his best racing stride, moved up fast after entering the stretch but could not improve his position at the end, although easily best of the others. DIXIE PRINCESS showed speed from the start but tired slightly in the stretch. BLUE WREN raced evenly. VANISHED showed the most early speed, was rated along in front but quit badly in the last three-sixteenths. Scratched 43972 Justa Jane, 110; 43790 Nandi, 115. Overweight High Bay, 2 pounds. OMAREEN, racing in his best form and showing more early speed than usual, took command going to the first turn, was nicely rated in front and, although ridden out at the end, was never seriously threatened. CRATAEGUS, rated close behind the early pace, made several attempts to catch the leader but was not good enough. DARK MISSION, well in hand throughout, closed some ground in the late stages. TRICKLING, sluggish to begin, appeared to dislike the course. GREEK FIRE showed some early speed, but broke down and was being cased all through the stretch. Scratched 435842Yellow Metal, 113. LISSOM LAD followed the pace cut out by R. PINCHOT and CLARKSDALE, moved up fast rounding the turn into the stretch, continued gamely and wore down WHITE HOT in the last stride. WHITE HOT, fractious at the post, broke from the outside, raced on the outside of his company, moved up strongly in. the stretch, gained a slight lead at the sixteenth post, but could not hold the winner. R. PINCHOT, showing fine speed, raced into a short lead in the run down the back stretch, continued gamely but tired in the drive. PENRILL closed gamely. CLARKSDALE quit badly. LADY CHALLENGER, rated behind the early leaders in the first part, moved up strongly when straightened away in the stretch and, under a hard drive, outgamed GREEN IRIS in the last sixteenth of a mile. The latter, having nice speed, raced into an easy lead on the back stretch, tired slightly, but held on with courage at the end. DAINTY ROSE, slow to get going, trailed her field in the back stretch, came to the outside in the stretch, responded fast when punished and was going fastest at the end. ROYAL VINTAGE, tloser to the pace than usual, followed the fast pace cut out by DARK SUN, raced into the lead rounding the turn out of the back stretch, responded gamely when shaken up and was drawing away at the end. MOVIEMAN, forced to take up when POMPOUS GENIE swerved at the start, followed the leaders going down the back stretch, came to the outside on the turn for home, went to the inside for the final drive and closed gamely. EPICURUS, right with the leaders from the outset, continued gamely when put to pressure but could not improve his position at the end. JACK PATCHES, a distant trailer until turning out of the back stretch, moved up gamely when punished and finished in resolute fashion. DARK SUN quit. POMPOUS GENIE swerved at the start. The latter broke slowly, was forced to race on the outside, came gamely in the stretch and was catching the winner at the end. PAGAN KING, going in his best form, went into a short lead after the break, was rated along in front but began to tire slightly after straightening away in the stretch. ROSEPATH, in behind the fast early pa.ee, came to the inside for the drive and closed gamely. LADYMUCH and .DONOSIRIS encountered early trouble. SPRING MOON lacked early speed. RELATIVITY, rated behind the early pace, began to move up coming around the top turn, responded nicely to punishment and outstayed the fast closing TROUBANOVA The latter was far back early, made up ground gradually, came io the center of the track for the drive and was catching the leader at the end. DENCLAIRE, outpaced for three-quarters, worked her way up forwardly -and closed determinedly. SANDALMAN, having much early speed, took command in the short run to the first turn, opened up good lead, but failed to stay when pressed. MERRY BUD closed some ground.
