" MADERIS forced the pace under strong restraint, came around FULL UP -gradually when placed to mild urging and, after opening up a good lead, continued well, to hold HOUR ZEV safe and win with something left. The latter raced wide after about three-eighths, was slow to. respond but rallied stoutly after reaching the final quarter, and came on in resolute fashion at the end, but could not reach the winner. GRASSWRACK, a factor from the start and slightly jostled about in the stretch, held on with good courage. FULL UP started to tire after making the pace under urging to the stretch. WEE SANTA saved much ground and had no mishaps. CHIFALLY was outrun. LADY CHINIQUY and FANLE were through early. Overweight Grasswrack, 1 pound ; Wee Santa, 3. SECOND RACE 3-4 MILE. DOMINO PLAYER, raced wide and inclined to bear out in the stretch was under restraint for- a half mile, drew into command gradually and, after getting up, came away fast. OTTOMAN had speed from the start, saved ground and held on well. MAIDEN DREAM responded in determined fashion after reaching the final quarter and fought it out stubbornly to the end but just lasted to be a dead heat third with FESTOON. The latter, .buffeted about in the early racing and in close quarters on the strech turn, closed fast when clear. MISS BALKO was under pressure from the start and tired after five-eiahtbs. HIGHZO, quick to recover after meeting interference in the opening quarter, was rated under restraint to the stretch, moved to PUDDIN quickly and, without need of strong urging, came away fast in the final eighth. PUDDIN swerved over sharply despite the efforts of his rider to keep him from doing so when racing to the lead in the first three-sixteenths, displayed high speed in the early paccmaking, but tired after a half mile, yet outstayed MANEUVER. The latter, in close quarters early, raced wide thereafter and held on with good courage. QUICK GETAWAY, badly knocked about, could not improve his position when clear. CHATTER WRACK had no mishaps. BOHEMIAN LASS, outrun for a half mile and brought to the outside in the final quarter, came with good delayed speed when straightened out and was up in the last stages. DISCOURSE, lucky to secure room on the inside throughout, began to improve his position after a quarter and, shaking off OUR DAVID, held on well but failed to last. OUR DAVID, well rated in the early pacemaking, swerved out slightly on the stretch turn and fought it out courageously to the last sixteenth, where he tired. FIRM HAND had to race wide and failed to keep up in the drive, but was going well in the late stages. SPICSON closed fast. CHALK EYE did not threaten. CARUS quit. METAURUS. rated under strong restraint but in close attendance of the leaders for about Five-eighths, was forced to race around the leaders when working his way to the front and, drawing into a good lead before reaching the final eighth, continued well to win in handy fashion. UNKIE TOM, never far back but forced to race wide throughout, was placed to strong urging after three-quarters and closed in resolute fashion. SLEEPY JOE, taken back several times when in close quarters, lost ground on the stretch turn and went to the inside when closing fast under stout pressure. CARL B. finished fast. FLAG CADET, badly outrun early and slow to respond, went out badly in the stretch and, rallying when straight, finished fastest. CINAR, BOILING POINT and COLOR BEARER tired in the drive. MENOW, under strong riding early but taken under light reserve on the turn, held on with good courage when under severe pressure the final quarter, and held the others safe. BOURBON KING, fractious at the post but away well, was blocked before going an eighth, began to move up slowly when saving ground on the stretch . turn, came out for the drive, but could not improve his position. JOE SCHENCK improved his position gradually and held on gamely to the end. PHARACASE began slowly and showed a good effort. MOUNTAIN RIDGE lost much ground and tired in the stretch. EVENING GOWN made the early pace under restraint, saved ground throughout and, tiring after drawing into a good lead in the stretch, could not withstand the winner. SORCERY, in close quarters on the stretch turn and forced to the outside for room in the drive, held on well. NORTH BLAZE tired in the final eighth.
