Grey Gold and Paradisical held prominent positions for three-quar- ters but they dropped back thereafter. The winner was the second choice, being held at odds of .50 to . Whopper was an 11 to 5 favorite. ATTENDANCE 18,000. Summertime weather prevailed and the crowd, estimated at 18,000, included many visitors from the Dominion, Cleveland, Toledo a"nd other Michigan cities. The excellent program was formful and many of the finishes were so close that the j camera decided many races. One of the imost thcilling finishes came with the Pfeif- fer Brewing Company Handicap, the fifth : event, when Long Run Stables Dolaway and A. P. Canales Mary Vito were so close at the end of six furlongs that the stewards called for the second picture before giving the decision to Dolaway. This pair finished in a dead heat fifteen, days ago. Biscayne Blue and Crows Flight were the high weights of the field and the choices but at no stage of the journey did they threaten Dolaway, which ran the distance in the sparkling time of lillU. BASTE AGAIN. Baste chalked up her third victory of the meeting when she led Kentucky Eagle, Jules Lazard and the heavily supported Gay Bill to the end of six furlongs in the second race. Farrell Jones drove the winner down on the outside to wrest the lead from Kentucky Eagle inside the final furlong and won drawing away. Gay Bill raced wide and showed little. A thrilling finish and the biggest surprise came with the Border States Purse and fourth event for three-year-olds when Mrs. A. J. Abels Jelly Roll got up in the final stride to beat Sun Frolic by a nose. Black Sleeve, which came over sharply when improving his position in the stretch, was third, a half of a length back of Sun Frolic and the same distance before Linas Son, which enjoyed favoritism. Catnap, a strongly j supported second choice, was caught in the crowding in the stretch.
