MEADE DID NOT PULL HORSE Rider Suspended By Florida Commission for Unsatisfactory Riding and Other Detrimental Practices. LEXINGTON, Ky., June 26. Jockey Don Meade, who, after having appeared before the Florida State Racing Commission this week at Jacksonville, unsuccessfully appealing for reinstatement, today requested a correction of the statement in a Jacksonville dispatch of June 24, that Meade "was barred from the ovals after allegedly pulling a horse on the Hialeah course two seasons ago," and the further statement that he had declared himself "guilty of the charge." "When the stewards suspended me at Hialeah early in 1936," said Meade today, "they based their action on the statement that it was for unsatisfactory riding and other practices detrimental to the best interests of the turf, and referred my case to the state racing commission. The commission on March 9 continued my suspension, and on March 14 issued a bulletin to the National Association of State Racing Commissioners setting out the fact that my punishment was due to violation of the rule which says that No jockey shall bet on any race except through the owner of and on the horse on which he rides.
