FAIR KNIGHTESS IN FORM Proves Right to Filly Honors in New England Section. Easily Defeats Good Handicap Horses In ..Granite State Infinata Takes Matron Handicap Honors. SALEM, N. H., June 26. H. C. McGhees Fair Knightess gave convincing proof that she is the, best filly in New England as she scored an easy victory over the outstanding handicappers here in the Granite State Handicap, ,000 added event at a mile and a sixteenth, which featured the first Saturday card of the Rockingham Park meeting. The winner only won by a length, but Kacala was easing her up at the end and she could have won by a larger margin had her rider willed It! Either the official timer was far off or every private timer at the track erred. The time posted was 1:45. Private dockers caught her at least a full second faster, many timing the mile under 1:38. At the end the daughter of Bright Knight was clear of Cleaveland Putnams Moon Side, who had half a length to spare over F. L. Flanders Blackbirder. Araho Stables New Deal finished fourth in the field of ten. The day was dark and cool and light showers fell intermittently. However, the track was fast and the largest and heaviest betting crowd of the meeting was on hand for the sport. LEADS ALL THE WAY. It was Fair Knightess in front a few yards from the start and it was Fair Knightess from then .on. Once she took the lead ho horse ever got within a length of her, though several were whipped up at various stages : of the racing in an attempt to overhaul the i flying leader. New Deal was a wild horse at j the post and starter Frend was finally forced to start him from outside the gate. He got off fast from this station and went into the contention immediately, chasing Fair Knightess closely around the clubhouse turn and down the backstretch. Midway on the backstretch, Dabson moved with Moon Side and his mount responded readily, sweeping up fast to pass New Deal before they reached the far turn. At that juncture the winner was leading by two lengths and running with easy strides, ap-! pearing to be as fresh a horse as she was when she started. At the seventy-yard marker Kacala knew the race was won and eased up. It was a hard, whiplashing battle for second place between- Moon Side and Blackbirder, but Moon Side held tenaciously to his lead. John j. Shugrues Infinata, a filly thats mighty fit right now, won the six furlongs Matron Handicap, for fillies and mares, ,500 added secondary attraction on the card, finishing out a length in advance of C. M. Wiliocks Torolee. Willis Sharpe Kilmers Sun Celerina, coupled in the betting with Beauedwina, was third, just a nose in advance of Lady Bewithus. The favored Black Mistress was apparently short and could finish no better than fifth after getting to the lead at the far turn. The race was run in the fast time of 1:11 and was worth ,075 to the winner. E. J. Powers has laid aside his crutches and has taken over the active duties of training the C. W. Phelan string. He has been out of commisison for a spell owing to a torn ligament in his leg.
