BIG COLONY OF YOUNGSTERS Juveniles to Furnish Sport at Coming Hollywood Meeting. Close to Three Hundred Youngsters Being Prepared — Two-Year-Old Race Every Day of the Session. INGLEWOOD, Calif., May 18— Two-year-olds will occupy much of the limelight during the Hollywood Park meeting which opens May 30. Close to 300 juveniles will go to the post for the first time in races on the forty-six day summer turf program. For the past several weeks the youngsters have been going through, their schooling paces. They have been learning how to walk, stand, and most important, run. The in-1 tricacies of Hollywood Parks famed enclosed paddock have been taught to the young colts and fillies and all have acted like real veterans after one or two trials. One of the most important phases of a juveniles education is his action at the starting gate. This strange contrivance usually brings out the worst in a young horse and unless he is broken of bad habits such as backing out or wheeling, he eventually will learn all the tricks of being a "bad post actor," as they say in the vernacular of the turf. A two-year-old thoroughbred has the instinct to run. But in the starting gate he must be taught to stand quietly until the starter rings the bell. Then he must spring into action immediately or find himself left far in the wake of his rivals. COSTLY JUVENILES. Hollywood Park this season will feature races for two-year-olds every day. The most expensive purchases at the great yearling sales will see action here. Descendants of the turfs proudest blood lines will embark on their racing careers during June and July. Some of the youngsters which will be seen in action include La Rhumba, a daughter of Ariel — La Chica, thus a half sister to El Chico; The Gob, a bay colt by Hard Tack — Nancy Clay and a half brother to Gallaclay; Morning Judge is a brother to Morning Breeze; Pinched is a sister to Dear Diary; Old Colony is a blue roan colt by Jamestown, sire of the great Johnstown ;Picture Play is a son of Head Play; Sir Stratton is a brother to Alexander Pantages; and Cinesar is by imported Ksar, which died last year.
