1 1 WHEELING DOWNS NOTES | 8 — s Among the workers after the sun broke through Thursday were Paddy ODonnells Povel and C. C. Heavers Lost Harvest. They worked half a mile in company and were clocked in :52. Later Heavers Music Master reeled off a half in :51. All Play and Handsome John went a quarter in :28%. They are trained by R. G. Cook of Lima. N. S. Scava returned with the remainder of his string from his Indiana, Pa., farm. They included Incendiary, Democracy and Mahogany. He also brought along a lead pony. Ed Tyler is the first representative of the Harry M. Stevens office to report here. Tyler, assistant to Homer Rose, who will again direct the concessions at Wheeling Downs, including the clubhouse dining room, catering exclusively to members of the West Virginia Turf Club, began getting his crew together to put all kitchens and stands in shape for the opening. Steve Dawson has given his stable restaurant a new yellow exterior dress and a white interior paint job. The restaurant was officially opened over the week-end. Ken House, who has worked here for the past two years for the Stevens Company, was killed in an automobile accident in Harris-burg, Pa., Monday. His wife, Thelma House, has been a bookkeeper with the company for several years. They recently closed their office at Pimlico. J. Gilbert Haus arrived from Pimlico. He will serve as clerk of scales and placing judge during the meeting. A roll call was sounded for a meeting of all admissions department employes to report at the grounds Sunday at 1:30 oclock for initial instructions. All others will be given instructions during the week. 1
