j THORNCLIFFE PARK NOTES I $ — ■ s The highlights of the meeting will be the running of the Thorncliffe Handicap, a new event, with ,000 added; the Bryan and O-. Hara Memorial Handicap, also at ,000 added, and the running of the Prince of Wales Plate, with ,500 added. Racing will be under the supervision of W. A. Hewitt, presiding steward of the I. C. R. A., with stewards J. F. OHara and J. P. Mclnerney. Judges, P. C. Galliger, W. G. Kelly and Edwin Allen; starter, Thomas Rowe; racing secretary, P. C. Galliger; paddock judge, W. G. Kelly; clerk of scales, J. J. Farrell; clerk of the course, R. Crashley. Racing will start each day at 2:00 p. m., with the daily double on the first and second events. There will be no one-two events. Entries will be taken at Woodbine. Park each morning during the meeting. Thorncliffe Park will offer eight races on , three days of the meeting for the first time in many years. A hurdle course has been built and has five hurdles to a turn of the field. Many new improvements have been completed since the closing of last season. Resident manager R. "Scotty" McArthur has the I plant spic and span. All of the numerous flower beds and hanging baskets which surround the clubhouse and grandstands are in full bloom and present a pleasing picture. The grandstand has been remodeled for the opening when a new stairway has been built direct from the upper structure to the mutuel department. The stabling area has been completely enclosed by a new wire fence to assist the policing to conform with the new rules of the Incorporated Canadian Racing Association. Jockey S. D. Birley left for London, Ont., to attend the funeral of Mrs. McCullagh, mother of C. G. McCullagh, who passed away Thursday. Trainer F. Higgins reports that Aurang-zeb, which finished second in the last race Friday, suffered cuts about the hind legs during the race. Jockey J. Crawford was an arrival from Pawtucket, R. I., Saturday morning. Crawford "will don silks during the Thorncliffe meeting which opens Monday. J. Hornsby has been granted a temporary trainers license by T. C. R. A., and will take up his duties as trainer for the Dominion Stable. The Empress Stable purchased Pattertoe from R. S. McLaughlin at private terms. Trainer R. Arbique arrived at Thorncliffe from Fairmount Park, St. Louis, with the jumper Stockwood, the property of Mrs. Ar-bique. A splendid weeks racing has been arranged for the week in which 4,300 will be distributed over the seven-day program. W. L. Sayles checked in at the Leaside course with Fay Vixen and Don Boscombe. The former is owned by O. C. Teal and the latter by J. M. Teal.
