PILGRIMS AT L0URDES PRAY FOR SMITE JR.S RECOVERY LOURDES, France, May 29.— Unmindful of their own infirmities, scores of the supplicants at the shrine of Lourdes asked divine aid today for Fred B. Snite, Jr., the infantile paralysis victim who journeyed to this citadel of miraculous cures. Quietly and without informing him of their intentions, many of the crippled and the blind who have long sought spiritual consolation and possibly restored health of their own, turned from prayers for themselves and besought providence to help the courageous young man. It was a spectacle unprecedented in the long history of the grotto, whose atmosphere engenders such intense faith. Young Snite himself spent fifteen consecutive hours in prayer before the statue of St. Bernadette, patron of the grotto. Frederick B. Snite, Sr., of Chicago, the young mans father, re-emphasized that neither Jie nor his son is expecting a miracle.
