SUFFOLKS HOLIDAY PROGRAM Tomasello Memorial, Named After Founder of Track, Is Main Event. Nine Topnotch Horses to Clash in Principal Feature, Which Is Expected to Draw Tremendous Attendance. BOSTON, Mass., May 29— Memorial Day is one of the largest holidays in New England, where all occasions of this sort are taken very seriously. Suffolk Downs will celebrate the occasion tomorrow with the running of the six furlongs, §5,000 added Tomasello Memorial, an event that honors the memory of Joseph A. Tomasello, builder of Suffolk Downs and one of the most important figures in the early fight for Massachusetts racing. The race has drawn a field of nine top-class sprinters, and it is anticipated that a crowd second only to that expected for the 0,000 Massachusetts in July will turn out for the sport, especially since warm, summer weather has come to this section at last. The Tomasello is wide open and the favorite is difficult to pick. However, it is believed that B. A. Darios Beach Ensemble, impressive victor over the good filly Be Blue, will rule a slight favorite, while the consistent Clodion, from R. A. Moores barn, receiving heavy support, will be actual top weight of the pack under 114, while Beach Ensemble carries 110. BATTLE JACK READY. Trainer F. A. Bonsai, Jr., is reported to have J. W. Y. Martins Battle Jack on razor-edge for the contest. He will be one of the better supported candidates for the open race. The chestnut son of John P. Grier is under 109 pounds and will be accompanied to the post by his stablemate Slow Motion, which will pack a pound less. Stage Beauty, which carries the silks of Mrs. P. A. Shaw, is a quick breaker and will be out in the pace as far as she goes. However, she is a faint-hearted filly in the stretch as a rule. Her portion is 107. H. E. Engers Zoic has shown a return to top form since the season opened here and is by no means out of it under 106. The successful stable of Mrs. Emil Denemark will rely on Court Dance. J. A. Nixs Woodsaw, a horse which is seldom out of the money, carries the light weight of 100 pounds in the Tomasello. The remaining starter is Blind Pig, from the Fanfare Farms. Several of the best jockeys on the grounds will ride in the stake. Eddie Robart, leading rider here at present, will have the leg up on Beach Ensemble. Rupert Donoso has been assigned to Clodion and Les Dupps has been assigned to Battle Jack. Mrs. Frances Tomasello, widow of the man the stake honors, will present a trophy to the winner. The track from early rains of yesterday was drying out fast under the sun this afternoon and should be in excellent condition for the program. The stake is supported by the Stoneham, six furlongs dash for three-[ year-old fillies, and the Connecticut, at a mile, for four-year-olds and upward.
