PAPER GIRL, away fast, ducked to the rail at the first turn, opened a long lead when STARS ABOVE carried the others starters to the outside fence and just lasted to stave off MISS MAKERS strong stretch bid. The latter would have been the winner but for- being carried wide at the first turn. WALE SIGNAL broke fast, dropped out of contention, but came gamely in the stretch. LADY DOCTOR, away slowly had no chance after being battered by STARS ABOVE. The others were outrun. TAVERN broke well, took command in the opening. quarter and won as rider pleased. SMALL CHANGE had high early speed, but was no match for the winner. HIBLAZE broke well, then was outrun for a quarter but came gamely at the end. GOOD GRACIOUS, fractious at the post, raced well throughout and had no excuses. PANDORAMINT, well back in the opening quarter, came well through the stretch. The others •were outrun. MONOLOGUE, forced to break from the outside stall gate, closed gamely from a slow beginnnig. RQCKY MOUNT, hard urged from the start, had no excuse. The others were outrun. Won driving; second and third the same. JAMES PAL, alert at the barrier, took command at the first turn, started loafing seventy yards from the wire, but came again to win driving. SCHLEY GOREE, fractious at the gate, broke poorly, raced up fast at the first turn, collared the winner in the stretch, but hung right at the end. FLYING CENTAUR broke well, dropped right out of it, but closed gamely in the stretch. GEMWICK ran an even race. BELL-THORN acted badly at the post, ran off a quarter mile and was forced to break from outside the stalls. Tha others wore outrun. Overweight — Schley George, 2 pounds; Gemwick, 3. NEVER IDOL, away slowly, was taken in hand for a half mile, moved up fast between horses in the run down the back stretch, took command at the three-quarters and held on gamely thereafter. BANK HOLIDAY set the pace for a half and hung on gamely when collared. FAMOUS CLAYTON, hard hustled from the start, had no excuses. PENCADER, forced to race on the outside at the turns, moved up fast leaving the back stretch, but tired at the end. CHILLY EBBIE had speed for a half and then quit. JACAMAR was catching tired horses at the end. The others were outrun. Overweight— Famous Clayton, 1 pound; Chilly Ebbie. 2. Continued on twenty-third page. SEA FINN moved up fast in the back stretch, but tired in the stretch. LAST SCAMP, well back in the early running, closed gamely under punishment. ARACHNE ran an even race.
