THREADNEEDLE forced the early pace under strong restraint, raced to the front gradually and, on the outside after reaching the stretch, came away fast in the last sixteenth and won with speed in reserve. PELTER had speed from the start, was nicely rated and held nn fairly well, but was no match for the winner. UPSLALA, well up early, dropped back on the turn, met interference entering the stretch and closed well on own courage. RISENFLY raced wide throughout and, also mildly impeded on the stretch turn, hung on fairly well in the drive. ABANICO caused some crowding when moving up slightly on the stretch turrr, gave way badly in the drive and swerved in the late stages. WOWO was under good hand riding throughout and tired badly in the last three-sixteenths. Scratched— 74017 Tra-La-La, 108. Overweight — Risenfly, 2 pounds. Corrected weight — Pelter, 114. COLONEL ED, taken out for the better footing before going a quarter, took command under hustling tactics after reaching the turn, was under vigorous riding the entire final quarter, where he held I CHASE safe, but had little left. I CHASE began fast, was steadied when unable to outrun COLONEL ED on the turn, stood a drive with good courage, but was held safe. - FLUKE, well up in the early stages, dropped back as if through soon after reaching the stretch, but came again. TRANSIT LADY, a sharp factor from the start and well in hand for almost five-eighths, raced into the lead with a rush when approaching the stretch, quickly opened up a commanding lead after coming out in the final quarter and hold SOLAR HAWK safe thereafter. The latter raced wide throughout and, reserved off the early pace under stout restraint, rallied when called upon to hold on in resolute fashion to the end. PARK CITY, away slowly, was badly outrun to the stretch, where he closed well under brisk urging. RON was in hand for almost three-quarters, but faltered under pressure. BLACK PETER began slowly and was never a serious factor. HIGH POLISH gave way badly after racing prominently to the final quarter. MERRY PETE was through after five-eishths. CHIEF MENTEUR drew out gradually under light urging the first quarter, was steadied rounding the turn, increased his advantage entering the stretch and held sway thereafter. MASKILLO dropped back* on the turn, was under vigorous riding after three-eighths and, closing in determined fashion, shook off SKY CLOUD in the late stages. The latter, in hand for almost a half mile, fought it out gamely in the drive. SIGN UP swerved behind horses soon after reaching the stretch and was in close quarters in the last eighth CAHLOVINIAN quit badly after reaching the last three-sixteenths. POLYCLETUS took command quickly, was taken- under a good hold before- reaching the turn, raced wide in the last three-eighths and, holding on well after being placed to pressure in the last eighth, held MALEMAN safe. The latter, always nearest in pursuit and raced wide, was under steady reserve for. almost a half mile and hung on gamely, but could not get to the winner. LADFIELD raced wide after the opening quarter and gave an even performance. SANTAN was on the inside for a half mile, but could not improve his position alter coming out in the stretch. WILD PIGEON lacked speed and was never a serious contender. BLACK RIVER broke fast, but did not extend himself during the running. Scratched— 73971 Sanctity, 115. Overweight — Polycletus, 1 pound. TRANSFUN was under steadying restraint for three-quarters, gradually wore down ISOLENE and, strongly ridden the final eighth, stalled off BUTTER BEANS. The latter, also restrained for about three-quarters, swung to the extreme outside in the stretch and, closing resolutely, was slowly getting to the winner. ISOLENE was taken in hand after rushing into a long lead in the first quarter, continued easily to the last three-eighths, but failed to rally when called upon and tired in the final eighth. LABOR DAY was under strong urging after reaching the last half mile and had no mishaps. BRILLIANT ROSE sulked and was always far back. SHASTA PLUCKY, fractious at the post, but away fast, was straightened up several times as he attempted to swerve to the inside in the first five-sixteenths, drew out on the turn, withstood IDEAL FUNGI in the. stretch and came away fast in the late stages. IDEAL FUNGI, under a snug hold for a half mile, offered only a mild challenge when placed to a light drive and tired in the last eighth, but held ROLLING-HEELS safe. The latter, raced wide and kept in hand until straightened out in the stretch, did not rally to punishment and faltered in the last eighth. SHERRY B. raced very wide. QUEENIE was under a strong hold for about three-quarters, held on only briefly after being placed to strong riding and tired in the last three-sixteenths.
