NARC NARC Airs Airs Controversial Controversial Issues; Issues; Oil Oil Capitol Capitol Annexes Annexes Lansing Lansing Stakes Stakes Whips Bully Boy By Head Margin Gray Son of Mahmoud Holds Off Neumann Colt in Sharp Stretch Battle at Detroit FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 18. — Oil Capitol, racing under the silks of Thomas Gray and superbly ridden by Ronnie Nash, drove to a game victory here today in the 0,000 Lansing Stakes. Hooking up with Mrs. O. C. Neumanns Bully Boy in a sharp stretch battle, Oil Capitol, a well made son of Mahmoud and Never Again H., reached the end of the five-furlong dash, a head before the Neumann colt. Two and one-half lengths off the leaders, O. F. "Woodwards Old Tom turned back Joseph A. Goodwins Donke Serenade and T. D. Buhls Bowled Over for third honors in the first important two-year-old stake of the current Motor City season. Old Tom, who raced coupled with the winner, was generally regarded as the best of the Harry Trotsek-trained entry, because of his Bashford Manor Stakes triumph, but t he was no match today for the leading pair. Oil Capitol raced strongly to put away his stablemate and then held on gamely to withstand the fine stretch bid of Bully Boy. Shouldering the 114 pounds, Oil Capitol raced the Lansing distance over the fast course in :59% and the Gray and Woodward entry paid but .80 as the choice for the feature. Sir Sprite Visits Winners Ring Partly cloudy, but pleasant weather, was the order today in the Motor City area and a crowd of more than 10,000 enthusiastic patrons turned out for the sport, which was quite formful. The racing strip, in excellent condition this year, was fast for the matinee and good times were registered in several of the better offerings.. O. F. Woodwards homebred, Sir Sprite, a speedy eight-year-old son of Ariel and Southern Beauty, drove to a game triumph in the Noquette Purse, a six-furlong secondary offering. Sir Sprite, carrying 118 pounds, was far back during the first half mile of the Noquette, while Reportable and Cotton Joe engaged each other for the advantage. Turning for home, Cotton Joe appeared to have a safe lead, but then Hart called upon the ultimate victor, who responded with a burst of speed ample enough to put away the leaders and catch the choice in the last sixteenth. Running time was 1:11% for the threes quarters mile and Sir Sprite, lightly regarded in the speculation, returned backers 7.20 straight.
