Dart By Home in Clear In Garden State Event Registers One Length Victory Oyer Dr. Almac in Erlton Purse" . GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 18. — Brookmeade Stables Dart By, who received credit for an assist when his running mate, Chains, accounted for the Dixie Handicap at Pimlico, ran by his lonesome in this afternoons featured Erlton Purse, and was capable enough to score a one-length victory over Mrs. James V. Stewarts Dr. Almac. Mrs. H. K. Hickeys Ocean Front was third in the six-horse field. Dart By, a four-year-old gelded son of Whirlaway, set the pace for Chains in the Dixie, and stepped a mile in 1:36%. This afternon he reversed his tactics, coming off the pace while hanging up 1:44% for a mile and a sixteenth. Dart By was ridden by the clever Charlie Martens, and was the favorite at .40 with the crowd of 14,585. Dr. Almac had the speed to reach the lead early and thus maintain his rail position in the running. It was not until after five furlongs, however, that he disposed of W. Y. Goldsboroughs Binky B. Pennock had no chance to give his mount a breather, for Dart By immediately joined him from the outside. Dart By, who. was endeavoring to earn a starting position in Saturdays Valley Forge, got his head to the fore at the quarter pole and drifted in ever so little while displacing Dr. Almac. Pennock felt that he had been crowded enough to win a disqualification, but the stewards failed to concur. Ocean Front, nicely handled by Johnny Breen, joined the leaders leaving the back-stretch when he was sent between horses. Despite hard urging, he was unable to retain, his prominence and weakened slightly to be beaten two lengths for the winners share of the ,000 purse.
