Illinois Notes . LINCOLN FIELDS -AT -WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., May 18. Frank Sanders, a former jockey, is again leading the fields postward in the familiar red coat during the 30-day session here. He is being assisted by Lester Miller the opening week in the absence of the regular outrider, Joe Moran, who will be here next week following the close of the Churchill Downs session. Mrs. R. N. Crowley acquired at private terms today Top Sergeant and the nine-year-old- gelded son of Display carried her silks in the first race today. Mrs. Crowley purchased Top Sergeant from B. C. Kelley, who will continue to do the training. Jockey N. L. Pierson checked in from Garden State Park, where he rode Helen S. Reinemans Carrara Marble in a stakes event on Saturday at the New Jersey track. Pierson plans to remain here for this meeting. Tom Marshall, who trained many prominent stables during a lengthy career and more recently conditioned the Royal Palm stable, was an arrival from Miami, Fla. Jockey Andy LoTurco, a veteran rider on the local circuit, checked in from Churchill Downs and plans to see action in the saddle immediately. Joseph Smith purchased for his own interest, Bad Brandy, from M. Resseguet today at private terms. Smith is taking the newly acquired plater to Ak-Sar#-Ben at Omaha, Neb., for racing. Owner-trainer Jack Bainton reported his wife recently underwent a serious operation and is recuperating at Milwaukee Hospital, in Milwaukee, Wis. George Stutts has been engaged to train Joyce W., Day, and Ray Brown, by the trios owners, G. and A. Mavros. Jockey W. "Billy" Parnell stated he has severed connections with the stable of Mrs. Emil Denemark is campaigning here and will perform at free lance the remainder of the meeting. William Likens, who has a modest contingent of horses here in charge of Ernie H. J. Shaw, arrived today from his home in Davis, Okla., and plans an extended visit. Don McEachern, who raced a few years back, Shot Put, winner of the 0,000 New York Handicap in 1940 and many other important events, was a visitor at this track today, renewing acquaintances.
