MRS. LOTTIE WOLF— Owner of Mayram, popular Detroit winner. : — .A May ram Mo/ces Good in Role Of Odds-On Detroit Choice Wolf Mare Withstands Late* Bid of Cid Play to Score by Length; Minnesota Tallies FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 19. — Mayram, five-year-old daughter of Bahrain and Plain Mary, carried Mrs. Lottie Wolfs colors to victory here today in the fourth race, which was one of the better attractions on a mediocre card. Hard ridden through the stretch by Tommy Fico, the Wolf mare reached the end of the mile and one-sixteenth a length before G. and G. Stables Cid Play, who was second by two lengths over B. H. Wises Mescara. Only five started in the middle-distance test and Scotch Bim, racing for the estate of C. S. Popovitz, and Mrs. R. T. Larkins Glaemel followed the placed trio to the wire in that order. Mayram, a consistent sort, won at Gulf-stream Park before her shipment to the Motor City and she was installed a 3-to-5 favorite by the crowd of approximately 7,500 regular patrons braving cool and decidedly wet weather for the the sport. Mayram carried 108 pounds over the sloppy going in 1:49% to score her second success of the year. Starter John Morrissey sent the small field away from the gate in good order and Glaemel and Scotch Bim engaged each other during the first half mile for the advantage, while Mayram steadily improved her position and always remained within striking distance of the leading pair. After leaving the upper turn, Mayram went into command and she continued gamely enough under Ficos urging to withstand the closing challenge of Cid Play, who came from far back in the earlier furlongs. Nite Cries Takes Opener Through the stretch Mayram held on determinedly and Cid Play was unable to reach the victress, although he was not under strong pressure to take the place honors from Mescara, Scotch Bim and Glaemel, weary from their duel in the | initial five-eighths mile, tired badly during the late stages and both were soundly beaten. R. Mahalaks Nite Cries, handled by apprentice L. Hulslander, drove through the sloppy going and earned a half-length decision in the six-furlong first race. Nite Cries, foiwardly placed from the start, disposed of Buckley and Locklears favored Lunch Date during the stretch run, then lasted to withstand a fine belated challenge from Fishman and Goldblafts Bee Rose, who was second by two and one-half, lengths before Lunch Date. Nite Cries raced the three-quarters mile in 1:15 and he returned his backers 3.40 straight. Jimmie, racing under the silks of Mrs. Roy Carruthers, romped to an easy 10-length victory in the six-furlong second race, while under the guidance of Benny Civitello. Jimmie went to the front after disposing of Spring Thaw, then steadily drew away from his rivals to win with speed in reserve. John A. Morris His Grace came from last place at the start to take the place award by a half length over Charles Whites Miss Texas, third in the field of eight starters. Jimmie was timed in 1:14%, paid even money in the straight "tote" and was good for a 0.80 pay-off with Nite Cries in the Daily Double.
