— | ALSABS DAY — The Chicago-owned filly, a recent arrival at Detroit from the Prairie State, will fill her engagement in tomorrows Royal Oak Stakes. Royal Oak Ushers in Important Series Of Filly and Mare Fixtures at Detroit The Fat Lady, Alsabs Day, 4 Nitromond, Wirra Expected To Seek Week-End Offering PAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 19. — The 0,000 Royal Oak, one mile and one-sixteenth allowance stake for three-year-old fillies which is to feature the Saturday sport at the local course, will match an outstanding field of sophomore misses. The Royal Oak, first of a series of important filly and mare fixtures programmed for presentation during the Michigan Racing Associations summer meeting, drew a list of 18 fashionably-bred nominees and the race shapes up as one of the better offerings of the current season. Arthur B. Hancocks homebred, Nitromond, well made daughter of Bull Lea and Second Front, stamped herself as a filly of class here Monday when she defeated a fair field at six furlongs. Nitromond has been under colors on only four occasions, finishing second twice, winning one engagement and running fourth in her initial outing last year as a two-year-old. Brought on the slow track here this morning by trainer Moody Jolley, Nitromond turned in quite the best work of the day, stepping five furlongs over the dull footing in 1:03 handily. Mrs. Albert Sabatns Alsabs Day, due momentarily from Chicago to fill her Royal Oak engagement, is one of the better regarded eligibles for the week-end stake. Leading money winner of his sex and age division last year, Alsabs Day went slightly amiss in Florida this winter and trainer H. C. Dodson has brought her along carefully since then. In excellent condition, according to reports, the Sabath miss comes to the Fair Grounds with a record marked by triumphs in Pimlicos Marguerite Stakes and Arlington Parks Poily-anna Stakes. Jack Richard has been en- j gaged to ride Alsabs Day in the Saturday] headliner. Thomas F. Devereuxc Wirra, a homebred daughter of Equifox and Gayee, shipped here from Kentucky for the Royal Oak and is in splendid shape at present. After making the early pace in the Kentucky Oaks, Wirra faltered and she finished fifth behind Wistful, The Fat Lady and Lady Dorimar in the important Downs filly stake. Wirra, however, has a pair of victories to her credit, despite the fact that she has been under colors only four times during her brief career. Mrs. George C. White and E. W. Thomas Our Request, a victress during the current meeting, is a grand looking daughter of Requested and she made an extremely fine appearance here, when she accounted for a division of the Straits Purse last Saturday. Our Requests outstanding performance, however, came about last autumn at Churchill Downs when she finished a close-up third to Johns Joy and Fleeting Star in the one mile Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, which was decided in 1:37, exceedingly fast time over the Derby course. Mrs. E. E. Dale Shaffers The Fat Lady is classed a sure Royal Oak starter and her race behind Calumet Farms Wistful in the Kentucky Oaks was such that she probably will be accorded the favorites post Saturday. The Fat Lady won her initial two starts as a three-year-old, not having raced as a juvenile, and she has never been worse than third in six engagements. The Kentucky Oaks was her only outing as a three-year-old and the Shaffer representative is to have the saddle services of Euclid Le-Blanc in the local stake. Duval A. Headley, master of Lexingtons Manchester Farm, will saddle an entry for the Saturday fixture. Headley will put the tack on Pitcher, who is to race under his own silks and he also will saddle Stole, a member of the Louis Lee Haggin n. establishment. Stole engaged top company during her two-year-old campaign and, although she won but one race, she earned 1,550. Stoles best effort was in the Matron Stakes at Belmont last September in which event she was second to Myrtle Charm. Hal Price Headleys Lithe, a nominee for the Royal Oak, finished third in the Matron, while Alsabs Day and Lady Dorimar, other eligibles for the Detroit stake, finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the Belmont event. J. Price Sallee also is to send out a well-regarded duo in the Royal Oak in Thomas Piatts Blue Molly and Dr. Charles E. Hag-yards Mona. Blue Molly raced unusually well at Chicago during her juvenile campaign and she. displayed speed in her last Churchill Downs test. Mona beat Nitromond, Missab and Gay Defender at Keene-land this spring and then followed that score by downing Spizerinktom, Certify and Blue Jet at Louisville. Blue Jet is to race in the Royal Oak Saturday for her owner and breeder, Lewis J. Tutt, and the Blue Larkspur miss was narrowly defeated here last Tuesday in the Ferndale Purse by Dixianas Timeltel. While the RoyalOak is the nominal feature for Saturdays card, the Isle Royale Purse, at six furlongs for three-year-olds, and the Ambassador Purse, one mile and one-sixteenth test for four-year-olds and older, also should attract good fields.
