George Poulsen, Retired West Coast Owner, Dies SANTA ANITA PARK, Arcadia, Calif., May 19. — George Poulsen, one of southern Californias most popular owners until he retired from racing two years ago, died Tuesday night after a lingering illness. He resided at 4155 Fifth Avenue, Los Angeles, and is survived by his widow, Agnes. Poulsens best horse was Broadcloth, who won the Derby Trial in 1944 and was second" to Pensive in the Kentucky Derby. Broadcloth raced successfully at Hollywood Park and Santa Anita for several seasons. Poulsen raced Gold Duke, Flying Hostess and others. The deceased was a manufacturer and a member of the firm of Poulsen and Nardon, of Vernon, Calif. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
