Bill to Legalize Bookmaking In California Is Defeated SACRAMENTO, Calif., May 19. — The Doyle Bill to legalize bookmaking was beaten in the State Assembly yesterday by a vote of 40 to 34. Gov. Earl Warren had stated that he would veto the measure if it passed. The Senate passed a bill which authorized 10 additional days of harness racing; five to Northern and five to Southern California. The measure must still pass the Assembly to obtain the governors signature. The Senate also passed a bill which would allow the State Horse Racing Board to switch running horse race meetings from "one track to another nearby in the event of an occurrence which would prevent the meeting being held as originally planned. The track receiving the meeting would have to give its consent.
