Announce 16 Nominees For 5,000 Frontier Johns Joy, Our Request, Wirra And Smasher Are Among Eligibles FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 19. — The 5,000 Frontier, six-furlong allowance stake for three-year-olds which is to have its decision at the local course on Saturday, May 28, undoubtedly will bring together a fast field of sophomores. Racing secretary and handicapper Charles J. McLennan announced here today that 16 nominations have been received for the sprint and that the mail may bring in several more Frontier nominees. Those named thus far for the Frontier are John Kinards highly-regarded stakes performer, Johns Joy; Mrs. George C. White and E. W. Thomas Our Request, a recent winner here; T. F. Devereux good filly, Wirra; Smasher, a representative of Louis Lee Haggin n., president of the Keeneland race course and Brownell Combs Sequence, winner of the Princess Pat at Washington last year. Others. made eligible for the Frontier are Addison Stables Arise, Samuel Delisis May Queen, James C. Ellis Teapoy, Henry Forrests Summond, who recently visited the Churchill Downs winners ring; Joseph A. Goodwins homebred pair, Canary Bird and Romanelli; Mrs. Moody Jolleys Mr. Jay, Lexbrook Stables Lextown, Jay D. Weils Babys Broke, and E. Barry Ryans useful ■ duo, Beggars Dream and Gallant Spar.
