Ocean Front Striving for First 1949 Tally Today Has Dobodura Among Rivals . In Chestnut Hill at Camden GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 19. — Mrs. H. K. Hickeys Ocean Front, having apparently reached peak form following a light spring campaign, will endeavor to accomplish his initial 1949 success tomorrow afternoon in the featured Chestnut Hill Purse, a mile and one sixteenth test which features the Garden State program. The Easton five-year-old will have no easy assignment, however, for among his rivals is Dobodura, winner of four races this season in the silks of Frank Rosens Palatine Stable. Others named to strive for the ,500 purse are J. H. Hammonds Butler, Rarco Stables Halconero, Emil Schwarzhaupts Shy Katie and Fertile Acres Farms Gray Warrior. As mentioned earlier, Ocean Front has not earned the winners share of a single purse this season, but he has shown steady improvement and appears ready for brackets. Dobodura, conditioned by the successful "Slim" Pierce, is the most frequent winner in the field, having reported in the van no less than four times this season. Butler, winner of five races in 1948, and in 1947 when he was first home on four occasions, has started but once this season. In the final race of the Pimlico spring season, Butler was unplaced in a sprint, finishing 15 lengths off the victorious Istan. Still another 1947 stakes winner in tomorrows field is Halconero, who, while racing for Alfred G. Vanderbilt, won the Exterminator Handicap at Pimlico. He was claimed from that sportsman two races back for 2,000. In his lone start for the Rarco Stable, Halconero was beaten five lengths while unplaced behind Manchac. Shy Katie, a shifty daughter of Roman and Fair Weather, is generally regarded as a sprinter, finishing behind Pennon at six furlongs in her last appearance. However, the Tommy Heard stable has been going well and possibly the mare will steal a long lead which may stand her in good stead.
