Golden Furlong Scores First Victory in Delaware Feature DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 22. — Mrs. Esther duPont Weirs Golden* Furlong, Irish-bred three-year-old, graduated from the maiden ranks this afternoon in accounting for the featured Delaware Memorial Bridge Purse over Mrs. P. A. B. Widener, JJ.s Fox Run. The two were separated by a half length, with* William P. Foleys Sandhurst, a distant third. Following the running of this mile and a sixteenth test, which was timed in 1:46, J. Gordon Smith, chairman of the Delaware State Highway Commission, presented a trophy to trainer James E. Ryan, representing Mrs. Weir. Golden Furlong was a solid choice with the crowd of about 9,000 and paid only .90. The winning reinsman was Jimmy Nichols. Sandhurst set the early pace, with Fox Run in close attendance while under stout restraint. Leaving the backstretch. Fox Run was rouse din an effort t osteal off. He did manage to draw clear, only to drift I out badly through the stretch. In the I meantime Golden Furlong had rallied from | last position to assume command inside ! the furlong pole. He was roused sharply, I however, when Fox Run surprisingly came 1 on again.
