It resulted in a victory for Chicks Delight, I the third winning favorite of the day. The four-year-old filly, owned by Ben Fogelson and ridden by Paul Bailey, charged on the | outside through the stretch to pick up Mrs. ] Valenti and Shaffie, the early leaders and win going away, It marked the first success of the meeting for the Nebraska owner, whose horses won eight races during the Lincoln Fields meeting. Jockey Bailey came right back to make it a double on the card when he had Brown Smoke up in the seventh race to win in a driving finish from the favored Dickie i Sue. The latter, who was unbeaten in three £ starts at Washington Park, set the pace j and held on well but not quite long e enough. Impulsive Sam took down third i money. The final race on the card rounded out i a triple for jockey Bailey when he guided A. i Trouts Cinder King to victory over Ap-peaser, ] from the stable of I. Eisenstein and 1 W. H. Quick, and Mrs. W. C. Davis Alun. . Fair Crowd Out The day was dark and dreary and the 1 track muddy, but the crowd was a fair • 8,052. A couple of outsiders, the Illinois-bred 1 Infinity K, and the Brown Hotel Stables t two-year-old Ave, formed the Daily Double * and it paid 05.40. Infinity K., ridden by ■ apprentice Charles Collins, found the going • to his liking and led all the way in the opener, c although doing his best near the end € to hold Jimmys Doll. Ave, likewise, £ showed the way throughout but had an t easy time of it. Earl Knapp rode Ave. The first favorite of the afternoon won t the third when Daleen, a three-year-old colt, who had scored but one previous success in 25 tries, came from last place to I register with ease. Daleen was off poorly I but closed a gap to overtake the leaders in t the stretch. Kenwood, the pacemaker, 1 lasted to be second. John Allen was the 1 winning rider. Tattenham, starting for the first time in the t silks of the Sauganash Stable, which c claimed him at Washington Park, proved t too good for Master Mind in the stretch i run of the fourth race. Master Mind obtained t a good lead in the early running, t but jockey Church worked diligently on 1 Tattenham in the last stages to have him t up. Syndicate, the favorite, was third. The 1 winner was saddled by Bill Fronk. The Walmac Farms two-year-old colt, I Blue Licks, broke out of the maiden ranks i in the fifth. The son of Shut Out was fc backed into favoritism and was well handled c by Doug Dodson to lead most of the 1 way. Haltom was second and Tile Man/ t third. Tile Man might have been best but t he was in close quarters around the far t turn and was further handicapped when 1 his rider finished sans whip.
