The threatened interruption of the sport was averted here yesterday when Michigan Racing Commissioner Frederick E. Harris requested vice-president Harry Lindy and members of the Michigan division of the Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Association, to hold up action until after the MRA directorate had a chance to discuss the situation. Many of the tracks board members must come from as far away as California to attend the Monday session, Originally, the horsemen, as represented by the Michigan section of the HBPA, sub- mitted a series of demands relative to purse distKibution. Increasing the daily purse distribution from an approximate 4,000 to 0,000. Provide purses of ,000 for horses running for a claiming price of ,000 or more. Establish a minimum purse of ,800 in place of the present ,500 minimum. Schedule a ,500 race on each Wednes-7 day during the balance of the meeting and a ,000 event on Saturdays. After vice-president Lindy and the HBPA met Tuesday night, the turfmen altered their request, asking for a daily distribution of 7,500. The Michigan Racing Association was unable to accept the concession and said its board of direc- tors would meet Monday to discuss the situation. Although one step has been made toward a settlement, it is not a foregone conclusion that a final agreement will take place. At the present time, all parties concerned are concentrating on the daily purse distribution but, after that has been taken care of, the negotiators can turn their attention to other questions. In the meantime, racing is to be conducted at the Livonia course through next Tuesday and it is quite likely that a settlement of tfee entire situation will be made by that time.
