Most Expensive Harness Mare Has Never Raced LEMOORE, Calif. — Miss Jeanne Crain, a harness racing mare that brought more than five million dollars when she was sold at public auction as a weanling in 1944, is beginning to show an indirect return on the most fabulous investment in the history of the sport. Her first foal, the two-year-old pacer Ichabod Crain, has been a frequent winner on the West Coast for L. W. Craig, of Lemoore, Calif. Miss Jeanne Crain, named after the movie star, was donated to a war bond drive by breeder Leo C. McNamaras Two Gaits Farm. She went on the block and was knocked down to Tony Hulman, president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. She brought exactly ,371,500 in war bond pledges. The mare never got to the races and in her four-year-old form was bred to True Chief. Ibabod Crain, her foal of that mating, is being trained and driven by Dana Cameron, driver for Craigs Cimarron Ranch Stable.
