Lawrence Jones Holds Lead In Ak-Sar-Ben Jockey Race AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 25. — Lawrence Jones, the 17-year-old apprentice rider from Brush, Colorado, continues to lead the jockey contest at the Ak-Sar-Ben meet. Jones was up on a winner and three place mounts Saturday to boost his 25-day Ak-Sar-Ben record to 29 wins, 19 places and 21 shows. Under Ak-Sar -Bens point system of 6 points for a winner, two for a place and one for a show, Jones is far out in front of the other five leaders with a total of 233 points. Harold Walker, the seasoned rider from Nampa, Idaho, holds down second place with an 18-19-10 record and 162 points. Walker moved to second when apprentice Sonny Williams received his draft call. Williams had been in the top six during most of the meet and held second spot with a 19-16-19 record when he was called for military duty. In third spot is jockey Tommy Osment with an 18-11-13 record and Robert Mun-dorf has moved into fourth spot with 18-9-7. Jockeys Johnny Mack Brooks and Harry Hart complete the select six going into the last eight days of the Ak-Sar-Ben meet.
