Harry Harris Is Killed While Schooling Fencer Chest Is Crushed as Green Colt Hits Wing of Hurdle at Aqueduct AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 25.— Harry Harris, a leading steeplechase rider for the past dozen years, was killed this afternoon at Aqueduct while schooling John M. Schiffs Montadet between the third and fourth races. The green three-year-old ran into the wing of a hurdle at the far turn and a point of the wing crushed Harris chest and ruptured his heart. The crowd in the Aqueduct stands was unaware of the gravity of the accident. Harris, who was 30 and was born in Buffalo, N. Y., was under contract to Schiff and trainer Oleg Dubassoff, leaves a wife and young daughter. Among his many successes was a victory on Mrs. Stephen C. Clark, Jr.s, Trough Hill in last years Belmont Grand National. Harris had recently acquired a farm at Far Hills, New Jersey, and was about to acquire some horses of his own with a view to joining the owners ranks. Harris wife, Muriel, and their three-year-old daughter, Diane, were both at Aqueduct today. Mrs. Harris, the former Muriel Clelland, who held a trainers license and was well-known in the horse show world prsior to her marriage, said that the remains will be sent to the Harry Andreas Funeral Parlor at 86-28 161st St., Jamaica, pending the arrival of the unfortunate jockeys father from Buffalo.
