Fords Interesting Background SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 16. — Jockey Lester Ford, who won with Joseph L. Ayottes homebred Start Now, has an interesting background. Born George L. Ford, he says he is 44 years old and started riding back in 1934 at Hagerstown. The triumph of Start Now was the first for the colored reinsman on a recognized race course. In addition to riding at Hagerstown, Ford states he rode at Pimlico, Duf-ferin Park, Fair Grounds in New Orleans and at Batavia, New York. It was at the latter meeting that Ford claims he ever rode a winner. Since his debut in racing, Ford has strayed away from the turf to manage fighters, run a dry cleaning establishment and do a stretch in the armed forces.
