Dr. Ole Nelson was the favorite and paid .80. En Fleur made the pace with Blunt racing close to her and under restraint. Blunt moved up to challenge after going six furlongs, but jockey Morrissey, who had ridden En Fleur in her four prior victories at this meeting, had something left with the miss. She responded well to draw out from Blunt nearing the stretch turn but bore out on the bend and Blunt went out with her. That enabled Dr. Ole Nelson to come through next to the rail. Despite the threat of rain early in the day, a crowd of 17,983 was in attendance and the pari-mutuel handle was expected to go well over a million dollars. A drizzle began as the sixth race was being run and continued throughout the afternoon. Going into the final day of the meeting the average handle was 28,968 and the total attendance 217,386. The Daily Double paid 04.20 when Easy Coin, ridden by Herb Litzenberger, won the opener, and Cotton Bud, with Ray Camp up, took the second. Each event was keenly contested, with Cotton Bud and Ormestown racing lead and head most of the way in the second. Jockey Palmer Domenico broughfr Rebel Raider home in front of Archibaldo in the third. Archibaldo set the pace in the mile and eight affair. Leucoton, with Ronnie Baldwin up. took the mile and a sixteenth fourth from Jack Fusano, and the well-played Night Fighter lasted to defeat Rivas in the fifth. Rivas was probably best but went wide in the stretch. Harold Keene rode his forty-first winner of the meeting aboard Victoria Cross in the sixth, but his mount was lucky, as Count Easter, who finished second, was probably best. Count Easter came from last place and his jockey had a terrific time keeping him straight in the stretch when he lugged in behind the winner. He was beaten by but a half length.
