Jamaica Mutuel Revenue To State Is ,179,721 Tax Rate Boost, Longer Meeting Makes for 64 Per Cent Increase ALBANY, N. Y., May 16.— New York state pari-mutuel revenue from the spring meeting at Jamaica totaled ,179,721.55 compared with only ,776,293.53 last year, according to the state tax commision. The increase, which amounted to nearly 64 per cent, was attributed to two factors: 1 — An increase in the state pari mutuel tax rate from last years 6 per cent of the betting pool to a 1953 rate of 8 per cent, and 2 — The fact that this years Jamaica spring session ran 30 days, as against a 24-day session last year. The average daily handle at Jamaica actually declined slightly, as compared with last years total. The average daily handle at Jamaica this year in the April 1-May 5 meeting was ,444,556, as against ,457,-773 in the 1952 meeting of April 1-28. Average daily attendance also declined at Jamaica, from 30,494 last year to 29,898 at this years spring meet. The attendance ! total for 30 days this year was 896,938 compared with 731,862 in 24 days last year. The total handle at Jamaica in 30 days this year was 3,336,667 as against 8,-986,553 in 24 days last year. The average daily handle per patron increased slightly to 1.76 this year, compared with 0.60 last year.
