► Aureole Carries Queens Colors to Derby Trial Win LING FIELD PARK. Surrey, England, May 16 Reuters. — The Queens colt, Aureole, strengthened hopes of a royal victory in the Epsom Derby this Coronation year when he beat five rivals to win the Derby Trial Stakes over 12 furlongs here- today. Ridden by Harry Carr, Aureole swept into the lead in the straightaway and gaUoped on strongly to win by five lengths. Aureole started a 2-1 favorite and won from Jack Fergusons Mountain King, a 5-1 chance, with Lady Bulloughs Prince Canarina, 9-4 second choice, six lengths further away in third place. Aureole, who is by the Derby winner, Hyperion, out of Angelola, will not race again before the Derby in Coronation Week. The winner is trained by Capt. Cecil Boyd-Rochfort who won the Oaks Trial Stakes here yesterday with Nec-traine. This is the second time he has brought off this double. In 1948 he won the races with William Woodwards Black Tarquin and Aureoles dam, Angelola. A firm of London bookmakers said a rush to back Aureole for the Derby started immediately after the race. "We are taking thousands of bets from all over the country and it seems now that the Queens colt may start as the favorite," they declared. Aureole was timed the mile and half in 2:40% and took down first prize money of ,370. After the race he was backed to 6 to 1 on the court for the Derby.
