Royal Vale Works Well On Sloppy Belmont Oval Gets Six Furlongs in 1:13 Flat; Blue Green, One Hitter in Trials BELMONT PARK, Elmont. L. I.. N. Y., May 16. — A battalion of thoroughbreds came out to work over the sloppy main course at Belmont Park this morning, but there were not many outstanding moves by | "name" horses. One exception, however, ■ was the six furlongs in 1 : 13 turned in by j Mrs. Esther duPont Weirs Royal Vale, the ! revelation of the spring season in the handicap ranks. This English horse had I I shown an aversion to "off" tracks before winning the Gallant Fox Handicap in mud | and he was not troubled by the soupy I strip this morning. Royal Vale came back to win the Dixie | at Pimlico last week from a fine field and I may well be Tom Fools chief rival in the Metropolitan on Saturday, should Jim i Ryan decide to drop him back to a flat mile after his longer triumphs. Greentree Stables Blue Green, a filly who showed a pronounced liking for a wet track at Saratoga last August, indicated that she retains that fondness this morning when she also skipped six furlongs in 1:13 in handy style. The Questionnaire j filly, who has not started this spring, is j eligible to the Coaching Club American I Oaks on June 6. Greentrees One Hitter, who beat Crafty Admiral in the Suburban last year and proved himself a "giant killer" with two victories over Noor the season before, showed that he may be ready for a comeback when he stepped seven furlongs in , l:292s, just breezing along. He is one who never appeared to appreciate anything but I a fast track. The son of Shut Out is eligible j to try for a repeat score in the Suburban.
