EASY COIN followed the early pace closely and, taking command when LUMENA began to weaken, had little trouble holding RUTHS VACATION. The latter made a belated move in the stretch, but was gaining. CRITERIA was forced to take up sharply right after the start and made up considerable ground in a good effort. JUNIOR WOLF was going steadily at the end. PHANTOM HEELS tired. COTTON BUD raced on virtually even terms with ORMES TOWN when the latter was making the pace, and forging into a short lead in the last sixteenth won under pressure. ORMES TOWN displayed good early speed and raced gamely after being headed. WOOD H responded well in the stretch and was pressing the first two at the finish. SHATTERED went evenly. REBEL RAIDER was closest to ARCHIBALDO in the first mile, then moved up to catch him but faltered near the finish and was doing his best to win. ARCHIBALDO set a good pace and continued well, after being headed. SEGREGATE was always fairly well up in an even effort. HALS CHICK closed some ground. TO STAY weakened. LEUCOTON was saved within striking distance cf the leaders for six furlongs, then went to the front on the outside and drew away in the stretch. JACK FUSANO moved with LEUCOTON, and slightly behind the latter, and saved ground in the stretch but was not good enough. BILL TWIG made up some ground to finish well. NIGHT FIGHTER pressed REBOUNDER closely while the latter was making the pace and, forging to the front entering the final sixteenth, had enough . left to resist RIVAS. The latter trailed early and raced wide while making his move, but finished strongly : in the middle of the track and might have been best. LITTLE JONESY was always a good contender. VICTORIA CROSS was under restraint while racing close to the pace in the first seven furlongs, then moved up to take command but was required to do his best near the end to hold COUNT EASTER. The latter was badly outrun early but closed up strongly in the last quarter and might have won but for lugging in back of the winner a couple of times in the stretch. He was gaining at the end. STREAMLINER had the most early speed but bore out from the-rail in the last half mile. SEVENTY-SEVEN moved up on the inside on the backstretch but weakened in the final drive. OAK RIVER failed to offer any contention. SHOTRAL bore out badly on a couple of turns and lost all chance 0 KAYS SON was forced to take up sharply when unable to get through on the inside of STREAMLINER, after going three-eighths. OLE NELSON was rated some distance back of the leaders while saving ground in the first six furlongs, then moved up next to the rail to find a wide opening on the stretch turn and coming through to take command, drew out to win easily. EN FLEUR went to the front at once, courageously withstood a challenge from BLUNT nearing the stretch turn, and although losing considerable ground by bearing out on the iurn, went in gallant fashion to the finish under her weight. BLUNT was held in reserve close to EN FLEUR in the first three quarters, moved up even with her nearing the far turn but was repelled, then folfowed her out on the stretch turn and just lasted to hold BLUE LICKS. BLUNTS rider claimed foul against EN FLEUR and the claim was disallowed. BLUE LICKS was going well at the finish. The others failed to figure seriously. Scratched— 85895 Albermarle, 113. PERFECT SWEEP was rated within striking distance of ARGYROULA while the latter was making the pace and took command when ready to widen but was roused in the last sixteenth when SO THERE loomed as a threat. The latter was well placed early and finished with good courage. THE PHOENIX was badly outrun for six furlongs, then closed ground to finish well. ARGYROULA was hustled to the front soon after the start, but was used up in the first seven furlongs and had little left. HAND SALUTE tired.
