BRIAR BAY moved inside entering the stretch, responded to steady pressure and was along to outfinish ANSWER MAN. The latter gained a forward position soon after the start, was steadied until final quarter mile, moved closer to leader, challenged for command inside the final furlong and just missed. SHES GOT IT established the pace under steadying restraint, had something left when challenged and held on stubbornly in the drive. RED HOOPS saved ground throughout, making up ground near the end. QUATREFOIL faltered. CHAGIN had no mishap. NONPAREIL failed to respond to late urging. The others were outrun. Overweight — Red Hoops, 1 pound; Chagin, 1. Answer Man claimed by Mrs. R. L. Shapiro.
