Mr. Monica in Head Victory On Final Fort Miami Program FORT MIAMI. Maumee, Ohio, May 16.— A fine turnout of 7,538 racing patrons attended the races on the final day of the 25-day spring meeting at this mile oval and were undismayed by the slight showers which fell after the first two races. The throng pushed the total attendance figure to 80,535, which indicates the approval of racing fans in the Toledo — Detroit area with the operation of the Fort Miami course. Regulars in the crowd were cheered by the head victory of the old Ohio favorite, Mr. Monica, in the fourth race as the nine-year-old son of San — Monica outgamed Fair Degree for his second success of the meeting. Jockey Buddy Mills did not allow Mr. Monica to lag in the early running and the gallant stallion showed his usual game-ness to earn the decision in a blanket finish. Mr. Monica paid .80 as he ran the six furlongs in 1:14%. An appreciative display of applause greeted the leading rider, Howard Craig, as he returned to the winners circle for the forty-second time in the third race with the favored leading Wac. Craigs mastery earned him the respect of the entire racing public who attended the meeting regularly.
