VANTAGE was under restraint early and, moving steadily on the outside nearing the stretch turn, headed McGRATHIANA, then cut to the inside in the stretch when clear, but was all out at the finish to hold SEVENTH SUN. The latter was in close quarters trying to get through a narrow opening on the inside nearing the stretch turn and was eased back, then came to the outside in the stretch to finish well. His rider claimed a foul against the winner and the claim was not allowed. McGRATHIANA set most of the early pace, but weakened in the stretch. BALSA was going fairly well at the finish. WOODSIDE was rated for six furlongs, then came forward steadily to take command nearing the stretch turn and held OBTAIN in a drive. OBTAIN was never too far away and finished steadily on the outside of the winner. The rider of OBTAIN claimed foul against WOODSIDE for carrying him wide on the stretch turn. The claim was not allowed. PHAELATER went to the front early to set the pace, but weakened when the real racing began. CAPT GALLAGHER made up some ground. FRISK was always within striking distance of PAPA BEAR while the latter was making the pace, and moving up to catch him around the far turn, drew out thereafter to win easily. BEL KING lost ground in the stretch but finished strongly on the outside. JAY EDWARD was always well up. PAPA BEAR opened up a good lead in the early stages and had little left for the stretch run.
