HASTY BOY, slow to gain best stride, came to the complete outside for the stretch run and finished with good courage. BLACK SAINT closed determinedly in a sharp effort. HAM HOCKS, away sluggishly, made up some ground during the late stages and perhaps would prefer a longer distance. JOHN BARLYCORN tired when placed to pressure. GALLANT ROY quit, as did CELESTE. CATALPA lacked speed. LOVELY LEAGUE never threatened. A BIT LATE was unable to keep up. ETHEL STONE was always outrun. GALE T0NI dropped back immediately after the start. CLINT McCRAY, a sharp factor from the beginning, disposed of TURF PIC when ready and in a long drive gamely withstood INDIAN FILE. The latter finished with good courage and gradually was getting to the winner. OLD BAASKET reached near even terms with the leader nearing the furlong marker, then faltered. TORNABUONI failed to respond to punishment. TURF PIC, away fastest, drifted in during the early running, lost command when set down for the drive and continued to tire. FLEUR DE JOIE steadily improved her position to gain contention on the final turn, tired when the real test came and was unable to endanger the winner though best of the others. GENTLE STAR showed good speed during the early portion, but weakened when the real test came. MAILING LIST was outdistanced early. EASTCELL never was a forward factor.
