John F. Kennedy Will Serve As Las Vegas State Steward LAS VEGAS, Nev., May 26.— A. W. Harris, chairman of the Nevada State Racing Commission, today informed Webb Everett, vice-president and executive manager of the ne.wly formed Las Vegas Jockey Club, that the commission had appointed John P. Kennedy as state steward representing Nevada for the Las Vegas tracks inaugural meeting opening on Friday, September 4 and continuing for 67 days through December 21 with racing on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. This announcement was greeted with enthusiasm by Everett and his associates as the state has followed the policy of the track in naming a man well versed in racing. Kennedy is recognized as an outstanding racing official. For the past five years he has served as an assistant to Marshall Cassidy, executive secretary of the New York Jockey Club and, in addition to his work with Cassidy .has served in an official capacity at several eastern tracks. During the recent war, Kennedy was a counter-intelligence officer in the Pacific area with the Navy. He has also served two years with Spencer Drayton, head of the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau. Kennedy has also been loaned by The Jockey Club this summer to serve at the Arlington -Washington Park meetings. Following his work there he will pick up his new assignment at Las Vegas.
