Western Western Springs Springs Purse Purse to to Raintree; Raintree; Twelve Twelve Agile Agile Sprinters Sprinters in in Roseben Roseben Drives Across Wire Before Seventh Sun Odds-On Choice Inseparable Runs Third in Lincoln Grass Feature; Tee Vee Repeater By J. J. MURPHY HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111, May 26.— The biggest upset of todays sport here came with the running of the Western Springs Purse when Inseparable, long a Chicago favorite and odds-on choice in the wagering, went down to defeat. The eight-year-old representing Hasty House Farm could do no better than third behind Raintree and Seventh Sun in the seven-furlong race on the turf. Inseparable, ridden by Johnny Adams, was beaten two lengths by Raintree, who finished three parts of a length before Seventh Sun. The time was l:263/5 and Raintree, racing for Jake Lowenstein and second choice in the betting, paid 0.60. Jockey Ken Church was in the irons for his second success of the afternoon. A field of seven participated in the feature, with William Hal Bishop starting an entry in Grass Fire and Janes Gal. Grass Fire made the pace and opened up a three -length lead going down the backstretch, but midway of the stretch was collared by Seventh Sun. Then Raintree, who had been fifth in the early running, came fast on the outside to get to the front near the end. Catches Grass Fire Inseparable lacked early speed with but a sixteenth to go and it did not seem as if would be in the money, but he finished fairly well to catch Grass Fire. Raintree, who won five races last year, was making his second start of the season. In his previous essay he had been second to Shy Guy at Churchill Downs and finished in front of Big Stretch. His triumph was witnessed by a crowd of 10,408 in agreeable summerlike weather. The grass course was fast but the main strip was a trifle off and was labeled good. A pair of two-year-old races were among the first five contests on the list here today, and the winners were Lady Elliott, a Revoked filly who had never before been postward, and Tee Vee, another miss who had the benefit of six previous starts. Tee Vee, a ,700 purchase as a yearling, ran in the fifth and was timed in one-fifth second better than Lady Elliott, a ,800 purchase who took the third. Don MacAn-drew rode Lady Elliott, and Ken Church was astride Tee Vee. Jockey Church put forth a heads up ride on Tee Vee. After Wee Payoff, the favorite, had made 4he pace and entered the home lane with a six-length advantage he was still well to the good with but 50 yards to Continued on Page Forty -Three Twelve Atjile Sprinters Vie In Roseben at Belmont Park Continued from Page One since he recovered from an attack of shipping fever acquired en route north from Aiken, S. C, in March. The 10-year-old was never any younger, in appearance at least, and is not badly placed with 119 pounds. That there is little "dead wood" in this edition of the Roseben is evident from the fact that the field is completed by Mrs. Ben F. Whitakers Hitex, 118; Winding Way Farms Sagittarius, 115; Greentree Stables Northern Star, 112; Mrs. Robert L. Gerrys Master Ace, 106, and Phantom Farms Nullify, 104 pounds. Hitex comes from a winning race at seven furlongs on the main track, while Sagittarius followed a good fourth in the Toboggan by finishing third in the Governors Handicap at Suffolk Downs, in which he was favored. Northern Star showed some improvement by finishing fourth to j Gay Grecque, Sunshine Nell and Whither I last week, while Master Ace returned to 1 I action in that race, tiring after setting the I pace to the upper stretch. Nullify finished i right with Master Ace, but lacked speed. Eddie Arcaro will ride Dark Peter, while Nick Shuk will be on Tuscany and Eric , Guerin will be up on Hitex. No rider has ; been engaged for Squared Away, but Hed-ley . Woodhouse will -pilot Tea-Maker, while Bennie Green will be on Sagittarius.
