HBPA Official Criticizes Hollywood Stakes Boosts Cheap Publicity/ Says Robinson; Aim Isto HaveMinimumsl ncreased HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., May 26. — Hollywood Parks announcement yesterday afternoon that it was boosting two stakes from 0,000 to 00,000 and five others from 0,000 to 5,000, may bring an end to the bristling peace that has existed between the horsemen and Hollywood Park since they compromised their purse difficulties last May 14. C. Ray Robinson, spokesman for the Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Association in California, labeled the upping of the Westerner and the Sunset to 00,000 as "cheap publicity" and "not in keeping with the spirit of the HBPA." Robinson also scolded Hollywood Park for its arrogant attitude in not first presenting the matter to the horse racing board. "When we fought for an increase in purses," Robinson said, "it was not with the idea of having the big stakes increased in value, but to raise the minimum purses and benefit the little fellow in racing." It was also announced that the HBPAs board of directors would hold a meeting to adopt some action.
